Service Messages

To  service a message back to the Originating Station requires you to send a properly formatted message to the sender. A properly formatted message is one that conforms to the NTS/ARRL/Universal Radiogram format.

  1. Format the message with PREAMBLE, ADDRESSEE, TEXT and SIGNATURE.
  2. Contact Net Control and alert them that you have traffic for one of the NTS Areas (Pacific, Central or Eastern. The Service Message DOES NOT have to go back to the station from which you received it; it can go to ANY of the stations that can handle that kind of traffic.
  3. NCS will assign one of the Liaison Stations to pickup your message off the net frequency.
  4. Once you make contact with the Liaison Station; send your message/traffic.

A Service Message can be as simple as:

[Msg. #] R W7ARC ARL6 LYNNWOOD WA [date]
KATE K6HTN
PASADENA CA
BT(Break)
ARL SIXTY SEVEN [message #] PHONE
DISCONNECTED
BT (Break)
BILL W7ARC

This should be the minimum message sent as a Service Message. DO NOT just come back to the net and say, "I couldn't deliver the message to..." this is not acceptable and only adds to the confusion of the net.

If you have questions or need further instruction you can contact: w7arc@arrl.net.
