THE WASHINGTON AMATEUR RADIO TRAFFIC SYSTEM
WARTS

In the Beginning

De W7JWJ & W7QGP

In the beginning there was no net,
75 was a band of surplus and QRM,
Void and without form.
And it was said, "Let there be a net."
And a net was born.

Some said, "This net must surely die."
But it grew. and it prospered.
As the QRM it parts.
Soon they harkened to that infant cry,
And were proud to call it WARTS.

Old-timers saw that it was a good net,
They met at night and passed the time.
And even had a roll call
On three-nine-seven oh they set that net,
Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall.
It’s bigger now, and twice as strong,
There’s old-timers and youngsters, XYL’s,
SWL’s and listeners too.
Traffic at night and all day long,
A dream of the few come true.

That Net had a bug – a PARASITE
A paper of note, both written and wrote.
From the old-timers pen,
It’s time to tell-
With this PARASITE,
Of days we all—remember when
